A deadly mushroom called the cauliflower fungus grows alongside the cauliflower.

The cauliflower fungus exists, but isn’t deadly and doesn’t grow next to the cauliflower. It earned its name not from its proximity, but from its resemblance to the vegetable. The fungus is mostly found at the roots of pine trees, but also grows at the roots of oaks. Cauliflower fungus is edible and has a sweet smell. It grows from late summer to late autumn and dies with the first frost.
